Information for teachers and schools
The exhibition All Our Yesterdays is a showcase of images from some of the most important archival and private collections of Europe, all stemming from the first 100 years of photography (1839-1939).
Pictures from family albums, showing daily life in that era from Girona to Kiev and from London to Pisa, are presented along with highlights from Europe's shared history.
The exhibition also features photographs from Leuven’s city archive: time capsules beaming back to now unrecognizable streets and squares long vanished! Did you know, for instance, that the exact spot of the current modernist Faculty of Arts building, was previously taken in by a church?
Program for schools
The team behind All our Yesterdays offers schools the opportunity to sign up for guided tours (duration: about 2 hours) that allow pupils to learn to develop a critical appraisal of early photographs. Aesthetic and historical topics will be covered, as well as the impact of the technology used on photographical practice.
Given the nature of the materials on display and the timeframe covered, we think this exhibition is best suited for high school pupils of the fifth and sixth grade.
The tour fits perfectly into classes covering:
We also provide an educational example template for class activities (in Dutch!), to be downloaded here.
